Now that we start connecting all these systems back together, do we then need the different systems anymore, or could we only fall back to using one system?

@prologic@twtxt.net This is undoubtedly why I went away from Hugo, Pelican, WordPress and co and wrote a small, for my needs, blog software. I also learned a lot about the Flask Framework, which I can now use to enhance our apps at work and make my boss happy. I would have chosen Go, but it was not the chosen product at work, so, sorry. KISS principle. Like almost everything in the *nix world. A small tool for a small thing. Chain it with others if you need more.

The pull-only model seems to work nice. You have multiple social networks, each one with its own unique audience. Pull things from others into your when you want.

From my point of view, I think twtxt and yarn are good as they are. The protocol s nice, easy and clean afaik. The surrounding software, makes it what it is today. Multiple clients, each having it pros and cons. The only thing I am missing is some sort of media manager for my uploaded images to yarn.social. But that is specific to this implementation and has nothing to do with the twtx protocol.

The Ukrainians are fighting hard. SO many dead people, so many good people’s lives lost.

NATO head Jens Stoltenberg said Russia could capture Bakhmut “in the coming days.” Meanwhile, Germany said it inspected a ship suspected of carrying Nord Stream pipelines explosives. DW has rounded up the latest.

The Nord Stream pipeline? Probably: blowing up Nord Stream pipelines was a false flag action made to look like Ukrainian false flag action to cover up American false flag action using Russian false flag action. But who will ever know?

Good Morning. Still a bit sick today. But getting better. My Corona-warning App updated this morning and showed new contacts in the last 5 days. So, I did test myself and luckily, it was negative! We isolated ourselves to not get anything before going on vacation, and now coming back we are sick with little coughing and a head cold (running nose) 🤧.

Oh I didn’t know that: GDPR-style regulation could be coming to Australia. “Australians would gain greater control of their personal information, including the ability to opt out of targeted ads, erase their data and sue for serious breaches of privacy, under a proposal to the Albanese government.” Paul Karp reports. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/feb/16/australians-able-to-opt-out-of-targeted-ads-and-erase-their-data-under-proposed-privacy-reforms

The host got updated and is now running a new version of Docker and Portainer. It seems to be, that the issues with containers not being started have been addressed. All containers started successfully, except the one for Yarn.social. It is still a mystery to me why this is not working as it should. Maybe it is because I am running yarn.social through a compose/stack configuration? Perhaps I should set it up as a container directly.

Had to disable registrations. Sorry, guys. But I got sooo many automatic generated accounts. My mailbox told me to delete plenty of users. Unfortunately, there is no east way to remove users. An overview of all users on a yarn instance would be cool to have. And sorry for not having the time to look into that.

In-reply-to » Did not want to start my day with a hike today, so I borrowed my daughter's kickbike and let the dog pull me for some kilometres. He did better today then ever before. He hit his top speed and just kept going.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Me too. But actually today it is not that much raining anymore. Yesterday we had a lot of rain. But wife is sick and sleeping. So I enjoy a silent house. Printed something for my Switch and playing some good old Pokémon while sorting and exporting photos.

Mmhh I thought I can use SONARR to automatically download news shows from the state funded public tv channels, but no, I can’t. That’s a bummer. Looking for another solution now. Maybe some rss downloader running in the background? TubeSync is nice, but only for YouTube.

Good Morning Everyone. What a beautiful day. Storm, high wind speed, rain, a closed main entrance because of falling tiles from the ceiling, a wet entrance because of a “forgotten” ceiling after the ceiling where tiles fall off. Amazing!!!

Back-Online - my provider decided to only hand out IPv6 addresses for a couple of hours. What a pain. Now, I do not have an IPv6 but my old IPv4 again. It is super strange these days. About 3–4 months ago, their mobile-part got hacked and data leaked. Maybe they are trying to fix stuff and closing down and fixing services. I don’t know. All I can say, that download speed is fine, but ping is bad sometimes throughout the day.

Sidequestion: currently I am running a TiddlyWiki for myself with private and public tagged posts. The intention was, to make non-private tiddlers (posts) public at one point in the future. Now I have found https://github.com/usememos/memos whis looks really nice. If I find out how to skin it a bit to have wider text, I shortly thought about switching over. No InterWiki Links so, but that is doable by linking manually.

What do you guys think of this?

@prologic@twtxt.net Here it is https://git.envs.net/cblte/docker-stuff/src/branch/main/syncthing.md have a look. This is how I have created the two syncthing containers.

Instead of mapping multiple volumnes, I have just mapped two locations where the actuall user (set by PUID and PGID) have read and write permission. This way they can write data and you can also access the data on the NAS itself, but limited to the individual user or admin, of course. Please let me know if you need any clarification.

One warning: when you disable global discovery, you have to set the IP of the devices manually on both sites. I was only able to get a connection doing it this way because of the non-standard ports.

Climate Change Does Not Exixts!

In Filzmoos (Pongau, Austria), the fire brigade had to respond to a wildfire on Monday afternoon. A 1,000 square metre patch of grass caught fire in the ski area. People smoking in the the ski lift have dropped their cigarettes onto the dry grass which caught fire. However, the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.

Think about it: dry grass in winter caught fire because of a cigarette! In WINTER! In Austria!

In-reply-to » Matrix as a self-hosted chat for our family was a mistake. Messages even arrive out of order now …

@movq@www.uninformativ.de When I quitted WhatsApp I went to Signal and this works really nice. You also have a native Desktop App and no outages so far. You can create bots for automation, which is a bit easier with Telegram, but hey, you can do that (Octoprint I hear to calling for filament change :-))

With Signal you can also donate if you like and help keep it running. For most people the stuff has to be easy. XMPP is not, Matrix is ok, but you need to create an account which is for some users a hassle, “abother account, again?” (they don’t realize that Signal, Whatsapp is also an account, just their phone number is the username, but it is seamless in-transparent process to the user how it is done), Synology-Chat: You can provide credentials for them. The problem is see is, people want to share things. And when it comes to share stuff outside the eco-system, most people have bad experience or don’t know how to do it as sharing to others it often hidden behind a second or even third screen tap.

New York Times:

Ukrainian strike kills scores of Russian troops

In a deadly attack on New Year’s Day, Ukrainians used American-made long-range HIMARS rockets to kill dozens — and perhaps hundreds — of Moscow’s troops in the occupied city of Makiivka, in eastern Ukraine. The strike prompted outraged Russian war hawks to accuse their military of lethal incompetence.
The attack killed 63 troops in a building housing them, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. A former Russian paramilitary commander in Ukraine, Igor Girkin, wrote that “many hundreds” were dead and wounded. Ukrainian military officials said it appeared that “about 400” Russian troops had been killed, though they did not explicitly take responsibility for the attack. ½

I got it! syncthing 3 way synchronize without global announcement. Acces on LAN and via Tailscale VPN. Also Setting the NAS as introducer on the individual devices and the lan IP with port (e.g: tcp://10.0.0.10:22000) and the Tailscale IP with port. The port should be the one you expose out of the container which’s internally mapped to 22000. You set these IP instead of the dynamic entry in the advanced tab.

I can give you the docker-compose file tomorrow. I am
typing this on my phone right now and do not have the ability to copy such along text.

Oki doki. Now that I have not used my Twitter account for quite some time and have been posting to https://nrw.social/cblte I am pleased with the feedback, the conversations, the reactions, and discussions I already had. Twitter was, even in the beginning, not that nice. Too many people, too many things, and if you ask something, even with 400 followers, it does not get seen. But I also should interact here a bit more often, right? But which “universe” to be used for what?

In-reply-to » So... What a crazy ass world we live in! 🤦‍♂️ Any of you (I know @deebs does) remember when Minecraft was a kids games for kids and created by this awesome guy and was open source (I believe)? 🤔 -- That is until he sold it to Microsoft (who bought it for stupid amounts of money). What did Microsoft go and do with it? That's right kids! 😅 They forced everyone old and new ever wanting to play the game to have a "Microsoft" account. 🤦‍♂️ -- So my daughter has been wanting to play for some years now, I've said "No". But she's a bit older now, so its getting harder to say no. -- So she now has an account. But in order to protect her real identity and her email email address (I'm her father, of course I'm going to set her up in this stupid ass digital world properly 🤣); I had to 1) buy a random domain name 2) delegate it to Cloudflare 3) Setup Email routing. All this so I could setup basically "junk" / "throwaway" email addresses and create an account with "basically garbage data". 🤦‍♂️

@prologic@twtxt.net aaahm. you could just get an account with a random email forwarding from duckduckgo? Or you could use mailgw.com (which i am using for quite some time for some services) or you could just use apple auto email forwarding thingy wingy?

JUHU! Finally! The new NAS runs. Oh boy what a process. First I had to restart and redow everything three times. Sometimes things are not sooo super obvious and then you really mess up. Who decided at Asustor that you cannot move home folders off of the Volume 1? And Why are the Asustor apps so bad? Beside that, the machine, the NAS, is really nice. Updraded to 16GB RAM and I finally have NGINX PROXY MANAGER running. Now I can setup all services with nice names!
